As of 2003 the district had a population of 118,648.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Districts of Vietnam )〕 The district covers an area of 598 km². The district capital lies at Tri Tôn and is 44 kilometres away from Châu Đốc.〔 There is a sacred mountain system named Seven Mountains here where Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương's monks live. It is the largest and most sparsely populated of the districts in An Giang, being quite mountainous.
